“SinoTrans Cup”-the 7th National Contest On Logistics Design by University Students (NCOLD) successfully concluded in Beijing

 

From April 22 to 25, “SinoTrans Cup”-the 7th National Contest On Logistics Design by University Students (NCOLD) was held in Beijing Wuzi University(BWU). The contest was mainly organized by China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and sponsored by Sinotrans Limited which also provided case support.  

After two days of competition,the results of the contest were decided and the award ceremony was held on April 25. HE Liming, President of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, HUANG Youfang, former President of Shanghai Maritime University, LI Guanpeng, Chairman of Sinotrans Limited, REN Haoxiang, Vice President of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, CAI Yuhe, Party Secretary of China Communications News, WENG Xingang and HE Mingke, Vice President of BWU, GAO Xiang, CDO of Sinotrans Limited, LIU Zhixue, Director of Logistics Research Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, ZHANG Jin, Director of Logistics Research Institute of Southwest Jiaotong University, GUO Zhaoming, Deputy Secretary General of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, WANG Guoli, President of Shandong Logistics and Purchasing Association, WANG Ying, Vice President and Head of public relations department of logistics market of JD Group, XIN Yun, office director of Sinotrans Limited and XUE Xiao, Manager of Human Resources Department of Sinotrans Limited attended the award ceremony and gave awards to the winning teams.

First, Vice president HE Mingke delivered a speech on behalf of BWU, the organizer of the competition. He welcomed the teams from all over the country and emphasized that NCOLD is generally recognized as the "National Logistics Olympiad" by university teachers and students majoring in logistics and groups of logistics talents stood out from the contest, which has provided a strong talent support for the modernization of national logistics and supply chain system. He said, BWU, the first university in China to set up Logistics Management major,has always committed to the logistics discipline construction and the training of more international and skilled personnel for the development of modern logistics in China. 

REN Haoxiang then delivered a speech on behalf of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the main organizer of the competition. He emphasized that the position of logistics as a fundamental, strategic and pioneering industry is further highlighted and Logistics industry has become an important platform for collaborative innovation of modern supply chain in the 13th Five-Year Plan period. The 14th Five-Year Plan, released in March, draws a comprehensive blueprint for modern logistics system construction. He pointed out that the rapid development of the logistics industry is inseparable from the strong support of talent. NCOLD is not only an important platform for enterprises to mine for top talent, but also an  crucial part of deepening industry-university-research cooperation and integrating new models, new technologies and new businesses in enterprise practice into teaching.

HUANG Youfang, former President of Shanghai Maritime University, made a comprehensive summary of the contest: first, the contest takes the real business situation and business data of the enterprise as the case,which includes strategic planning, operation management, operation optimization and technology empowerment. Secondly, 656 teams qualified for the preliminary round, increased 12.7 percent from last year and a total of 90 teams reached the final round. Thirdly, there are more themed activities. A series of lectures and online Q&A activities were organized around the organizing committee, with nearly 500,000 people participating in the activities. Finally, the solutions proposed by the participating teams are more suitable and feasible than previous ones, and the solutions are more focused on actual operation of the enterprise.

LI Guanpeng, Chairman of Sinotrans Limited, as the case provider of the competition, spoke on behalf of the enterprise. He said the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. The impact of the epidemic exacerbates this change, but also brings unprecedented opportunities and challenges. The Sinotrans Limited as a common destiny with the motherland development of the central enterprises, a fully market-oriented, international comprehensive logistics leading enterprises, have the responsibility to actively participate in the construction of new development pattern and the work of industry talent training. He stressed that the Sinotrans Limited will aim to "build a world-class intelligent logistics platform enterprise"and to provide a broad platform for training logistics talents, with the help of rich business types and digital business scenarios. 

YANG Bin, dean of the Graduate School of Shanghai Maritime University, commented on behalf of the judges.

Finally, the awarding guests presented trophies and certificates to the winning teams.

Since NCOLD launched in October 2020, it has received great attention and positive response from universities that set up logistics majors. In the end, a total of 656 participating teams from 363 universities were confirmed to have obtained the qualification to enter the national design competition. After an intense preliminary round with 349 teams in the final round,90 teams entered the final round. The final were carried out by the way of on-site presentation and demonstration works, expert questions and team members' on-site defense. The expert review group is composed of logistics industry experts from all over the country, well-known professors and enterprise executives. The competition case is more close to the actual operation of enterprise. Each team made a systematic analysis of the problems mentioned in the case from different perspectives. The design scheme covers internationalization, logistics hub layout, green logistics, contract logistics transformation, KPI evaluation system, urban distribution business development, vehicle deployment, block chain and document sharing. It gives full play to the innovative and cooperative spirit of the participating team members, which makes the competition between the teams more intense and the game more wonderful. Through the scheme design, NCOLD has effectively improved the students' ability of research and problem solving and made great significance for promoting the reform of logistics teaching as well as the university-enterprise cooperation.
